Hope’s Flame candles are made with 100% all-natural palm wax. When combined with various candle pouring techniques, such as temperature manipulation, palm wax allows nature to bring out the unique design and personality seen in each candle. No two candles are alike.
The advantages of palm wax candles is that they are virtually dripless and soot-free and burn longer. Together with a high-quality wick, they burn with a bright flame, minimizing soot emissions.
The main ingredient in palm wax is palm oil from the fruit of palm oil trees. Palm oil is a “virgin” oil because it is obtained by simply steaming and pressing the palm fruit. The palm oil tree is a natural renewable resource, has a higher yield, and is more resilient than any other oilseed crop.
In the recent past, some media attention focused on the sourcing of palm oil in Malaysia and concern over clear cutting of the rainforest. These allegations proved to be unfounded and untrue. What is true are these facts:
- There is ample evidence that oil palm plantations are actually established in areas previously cultivated by other commodity crops, like cocoa and coconuts. In other words, no rainforests have been cut down to make way for oil palm crops. Two-thirds of Malaysia remains covered in rainforest. Of the other third, less than 10% is used for oil palm plantation.
- In Malaysia, the palm oil industry has a long and successful history of strategic environmental planning. Malaysia also has no shortage of legislative activity to protect its natural resources. Environmental laws such as the Land Conservation Act of 1960, the Environmental Quality Act of 1974 and 1986, the Pesticides Act of 1974, and the National Parks Act of 1984 are all examples of Malaysia’s commitment to environmental excellence. Malaysia is also a signatory to the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity, International Tropical Timber Agreement, and Charter of the Indigenous-Tribal Peoples of Tropical Forests further strengthening their commitment to minimize pollution while protecting the rights of people and wildlife.
